Race Rules 2024

  1. We offer a four-race series.
  • 175 Mile +/-
  • 225 Mile +/-
  • 275 Mile +/-
  • 350 Mile +/-
  1. We are racing the Southwest course down I-20.
  2. The “Optional 400 Mile Long Distance Race” must have a 200 bird participation minimum to have the race.
  3. 100-Mile activation race will be in October, weather permitting. The activation race will not be included in the 4-race series, Average Speed or the Sprint Challenge.
  4. 4 Race Regular Series is planned to be November – December, weather permitting.
  5. The Perch fee is $150 per bird, or pay for 5 and get 1 free. Pay for 10 and get 2 free, etc.
  6. The Perch fee is non-refundable.
  7. The Perch fee is due before the birds are shipped or payment must accompany the birds.
  8. Accepting birds from March 15th – May 15th Replacement birds will be accepted May 16th – May 31st.
  9. All birds must be vaccinated for P.M.V. at least 14 days before arriving at the loft.
  10. All birds will be vaccinated for P.M.V. upon arrival.
  11. All birds will have their 9th and 10th flights pulled.
  12. All birds must be banded with a 2024 seamless band recognized by a National Organization (AU, IF, CU…etc.)
  13. Activation fee is $300 per bird, due after the 100 Mile Activation Race, and no later than 1 week before the 175 Mile Race.
  14. All “Optional Participation Fees” i.e., 400 Mile Race, Anything But Blue, and the Sprint Series Challenge, will be $100 each in addition to the Regular $300 Activation Fee. That is 3 more “Optional” ways to play. All participation fees are due 1 week before the 175 Mile Race and must be paid along with the $300 activation fee.
  15. The “Average Speed Challenge” will include all 4 races of the 4 race regular series (175, 225, 275, 350) and is included in the $300 activation fee.
  16. The Optional “Sprint Race Series” will include the first 3 races of the series ONLY. (175, 225, 275) and the optional $100 participation fee must be paid along with and in addition to the $300 activation fee and must be received 1 week before the 175-mile race.
  17. The “Anything But Blue Challenge” will only include birds that are a least 50% any other color than blue. i.e. Pied or splashed/white flighted birds that are blue must be more than 50% white to be included. The optional $100 participation fee must be paid at the same time as the $300 activation fee, 1 week before the 175-mile race. AOTB option will be paid on final 350-mile race only and will be determined by clocking order.
  18. 15% of all Activation/Participation fees will be held from all payouts to help cover race expenses.
  19. The final 350-mile race and the optional 400-mile race will be paid on the first drop and then clocking order. All other races and optional participation opportunities will be paid on clocking order only.
  20. Prizes in the final race will be paid to the top 10% of birds going to the final race.
  21. You MUST activate all your birds 1 week before the 175-mile race or ownership will be forfeited and birds will be sold to other participants at the regular activation Fee. Any birds no activated by the original owner and sold will become the property of the person paying the activation fee, and any winnings will belong to the “new owner” as well. Any “new owner” who pays the activation fee thus buying the bird can also participate in any of the 3 $100 options as well.
  22. All birds will belong to the breeders/owners of entry. There will be no auction of birds after the final race.
  23. A Tax Identification Number (IRS W-9) will be required prior to awarding any prize value at $600 or more.
  24. Return fees must be paid in full or birds must be retrieved on designated days within 14 days.
  25. If fees are not received in full within 14 days, the remaining birds become the property of the Texas Shootout Race.
  26. Returning birds to owner’s fees are as follows:

1 bird – $75

2 birds – $80

3 birds – $85

4 birds – $160

5 birds – $165

6 birds – $170 Etc.… Maximum 3 birds per box.

If the USPS unknowingly or unexpectedly increases the shipping fees to return the birds via USPS the additional cost will be passed on to the owner prior to the birds being returned.

  1. We will be using a BENZING clocking system and Wincompanion for live results.
  2. All races will be paid within 21 days of the final race.
  3. In the event of any unforeseen incident (i.e., including but not limited to birds that do not make it to the final race or return from the final race), the prizes will be split equally with the birds that were basketed and returned from the prior race.
  4. In the event of a hard race, the clock will stop on the 3rd race day at 12PM local time. Any position not filled within that time will be divided equally with all clocked birds for that race.
  5. The Texas Shootout Race has the right to refuse service/entry to any breeder or attendee at our discretion.
  6. The Texas Shootout Race reserves the right to make all decisions regarding the Texas Shootout Races.
