RULES

2026

  1. We offer a four-race series.
    • 175 Mile +/-
    • 225 Mile +/-
    • 275 Mile +/-
    • 350 Mile +/-
  2. We are racing a NEW Western Course.
  3. 100-Mile activation race will be scheduled for December, weather permitting. The activation race will not be included in the 4-race series, Average Speed or the Sprint Challenge.
  4. The 4 Race Regular Series is scheduled to be held December – January, weather permitting.
  5. Race dates are subject to change due to weather conditions and the condition of the birds.
  6. The $150 Perch fee will be as follows:
    • The first half of the perch fee, $75.00 per bird, is due prior to receiving your birds or with the birds. The final $75.00 will be due if your bird returns from the Activation Race. Payment must accompany the $300 Activation Fee.

  7. The Perch fee is non-refundable.
  8. Accepting birds from April 1st - June 30th. Replacement birds will be accepted until July 15th.
  9. An Entry form is provided in the tab labeled Forms.
  10. All birds must be vaccinated for P.M.V. at least 14 days before arriving at the loft.
  11. All birds will be vaccinated for P.M.V. upon arrival.
  12. All birds will have their 9th and 10th flights cut & pulled.
  13. All birds must be banded with a 2026 seamless band recognized by a National Organization (AU, IF, CU…etc.)
  14. Activation fee is $300 per bird, ($50 goes directly to Average Speed) plus the final perch fee of $75 due after the 100 Mile Activation Race, and no later than 1 week before the 150 Mile Race.
  15. The “Average Speed Challenge” will include all 4 races of the 4 race regular series (175, 225, 275, 350) and is included in the $300 activation fee. $50.00 from Activation will be added to the purse for this payout exclusively.
  16. The Optional “Sprint Race Series” will include the first 3 races of the series ONLY. (175, 225, 275) and the optional $100 participation fee must be paid along with and in addition to the $300 Activation fee and final $75 perch fee. All must be received 1 week before the 175-mile race.
  17. The Sprint Race Series will be paid on Average Speed.
  18. The 175, 225 & 275 mile races will be paid by clocking order only. The final 350-mile race will be paid on the first drop and then clocking order.
  19. In the event of a piggyback bird on the drop, that bird will be identified and placed at the back of that clocking group.
  20. We will be using a BENZING clocking system and Wincompanion for live results.
  21. You MUST ACTIVATE ALL your birds returning from the 100-mile Activation Race. Activation Fees must be received 1 week before the 175-mile race or ownership will be forfeited to The Texas Shootout.
  22. Non-activated birds may be sold to other participants at the regular Activation Fee plus final perch fee ($375).
  23. Any birds not activated by the original owner and sold will become the property of the person paying the Activation Fee & Final Perch Fee ($375).
  24. Any winnings as well as the bird will belong to the “new owner”.
  25. Any “new owner” who pays the Activation Fee & Final Perch Fee ($375) is also eligible to participate in the Sprint Race Series for the additional fee of $100.
  26. All birds will belong to the breeders/owners of entry or purchased for non-activation. There will be no auction of birds after the final race.
  27. FOR SALE BIRDS will be offered. These birds are offered for sale by the breeders and are not affiliated with The Texas Shootout. The Texas Shootout will not be held responsible for any misunderstanding between breeders and purchasers. A breeder agreement/partnership contract will be located under the forms tab.
  28. We offer the following forms of payment; Zelle; Check; PayPal.
  29. A Tax Identification Number (IRS W-9) will be required prior to awarding any prize money of $2,000 or more.
  30. Birds must be claimed within 7 days of the final 350-mile race. If not claimed, birds will become the property of the Texas Shootout Race.
  31. Returning birds will be at owner’s expense. Return fees must be paid in full within 10 days of the final 350-mile race or birds must be retrieved on designated days within 14 days.
  32. A Return Bird Form is located under the Forms Tab and must be submitted for correct shipping information. Please email to: texasshootoutrace@gmail.com
  33. If fees are not received in full within 10 days, the remaining birds become the property of the Texas Shootout Race.
  34. Owner’s original boxes may be used if the box is in good condition.
  35. Returning birds to owner’s fees are as follows:
    • 1 bird - $75
    • 2 birds - $85
    • 3 birds - $95
    • Maximum 3 birds per box. No exceptions.
  36. If the USPS unknowingly or unexpectedly increases the shipping fees to return the birds via USPS the additional cost will be passed on to the owner prior to the birds being returned.
  37. The Texas Shootout OLR is not responsible for delayed/lost shipping with USPS and will not file for refund of shipping if not delivered on time.
  38. All races will be paid within 21 days of the final race. The Texas Shootout is not responsible for delays or lost checks sent via USPS.
  39. Prizes in the final race will be paid to the top 10% of birds going to the final race.
  40. In the event of any unforeseen incident (i.e., including but not limited to birds that do not make it to the final race or return from the final race), the prizes will be split equally with the birds that were basketed and returned from the prior race.
  41. In the event of a hard race, the clock will stop on the 3rd race day at 12PM local time. Any position not filled within that time will be divided equally with all clocked birds for that race.
  42. 15% of all Activation/Participation fees will be held from all payouts to help cover race expenses.
  43. The Texas Shootout Race Management has the right to refuse service/entry to any breeder or attendee at our discretion.
  44. The Texas Shootout Race Management reserves the right to make all decisions regarding the Texas Shootout Races & loft management.
